Project 1* is a social action movement aiming to become a charity in its own right. Our vision is to encourage all ages to become actively involved in the local community and our wider community (including mission trips).
Within the boundaries of Project 1* future aims are:
- Cafe (in Locks Heath area).
- Sports Ministries at local schools.
- On the streets - working in and for the community.
- Alternative nightclub - including a venue for local bands to play.
- Promote youth mission trips to countries that have established LHFC projects.
So far Project 1* has seen a group litter picking in the local parks and alleyways. We also recently visited the local senior school and worked on their overgrown copse; we cleared a huge area of shrubbery, planted over 15 saplings and left the school with a brand new ‘walk-in’ compost area. We even made a Wormery!
There are other projects in the pipeline, one of which is working alongside local agencies (Fire Service, Police and the Environmental Agency) for a whole week. The venture is called C.R.E.W (Crime Reduction Environment Week) - and it primarily looks to tackle anti-social behaviour through all sorts of clearing up and other activities. As a result we will be working in the Lockswood Centre shopping area litter picking, re-painting and are looking to run a football tournament for the local schools.
We are also again in talks with the local school, looking to work on their pond - as it is in dire need of a revamp!
Project 1* is a chance for the Church as a whole to become actively involved with the local community, to build relationships with individuals and organisations.
James Marum (a junior leader at The Edge) has taken on the responsibility for this project.
