Fareham and Gosport Basics Bank – Friends of the Homeless

Friends of the Homeless (FROTH) is a Christian based organisation started in 1991 providing a nightly soup run in the local Fareham and Gosport area for the homeless. In 2003 the group started the Basics Bank which aims to provide practical help to the homeless or those at risk of becoming homeless.

The Friends of the Homeless has a very straightforward Mission inspired by the teachings and example of Jesus:

• To provide a centre where practical help is available in a welcoming and caring environment and each person is valued and respected

• Encouraging and assisting homeless people in their search for accommodation

• Working in partnership with other agencies to improve and develop facilities for homeless people in the Fareham and Gosport area

• By raising awareness in the whole community of the problems homeless people have to face, in order to effect positive change

Basics Bank’s services include providing food, toiletries, clothing and sleeping bags to those in need. Their services can be accessed through over 25 agencies that come into contact with those in need, such as Health Visitors, Probation Service, Social Services, Job Centres and CAB.

Providing food and other items to over 4000 people year, each parcel provides food for a week for people in crisis.

The need varies week by week but the ability to provide this support is entirely dependent on the generosity of the donations from the local community.

What can you do?

Bring in tins, pasta, rice, cook in sauces, tea, coffee, sugar, toiletries. The collection point is in the Church foyer.

Thank you for your generosity over the last 12 months, please continue to be generous. It makes a difference.
