BUILD PROJECT NEWS – MARCH 2016

Last month we raised even more!

The FILM and ACTIVITY AFTERNOON raised £278; the SALE OF COMPUTER GAMES has raised over £500 so far, and JAM A JAR is already up to £450. Thank you to everyone involved.

There is another opportunity to give what you pledged this month during GIFT WEEK (13-20 March) and also to stretch some more so that the gap closes even more.

Let’s make this vision a reality so that we can connect our community to Jesus and to see lives transformed. Thanks for playing your part. Here’s some ideas for March.

More information can be found in the current edition of Life@LHFC available from the reception.

EASTER

During the Easter holidays (25 March – 10 April), why not host a coffee morning and serve hot cross buns or host an Easter egg hunt? Invite your friends and neighbours and work colleagues and ask for donations to the LHFC Build project. A great way to share the vision and raise money.

MAKE A ‘MILLION’ IN MARCH

Have you got something at home that you could sell? Find it and use EBAY or GUMTREE, FACEBOOK or an ANTIQUE DEALER to sell it and support the BUILD project.

JAM A JAR

RUN2BUILD

Need motivation? Then come along for a run on Saturday 16 April starting at 9am from LHFC Car Park. We’ll time you, support you and provide a bacon butty afterwards. A 5km run for adults and laps around the field for children. The entry fee (which includes a bacon butty afterwards!) will go to BUILD.

BUILD PROJECT NEWS – JANUARY 2016

Every month there are new ideas for raising money for the BUILD project and the month of January gives everyone an opportunity to get involved. The project is driven by the passion to connect our community to Jesus and to see lives transformed. We can all play our part.

Don’t forget to continue to give and stretch so that the vision becomes a reality.

JAM A JAR

Grab a jar from the LHFC Office and fill it with any British coins.

Return it to LHFC Office when it’s full. It’s that SIMPLE!

SHWAPPING

Shwapping can be great fun and a fantastic way to refresh your wardrobe, bookshelf, toy box and garage; you could even shwap your unwanted Christmas presents? Invite friends around, they bring their unwanted items and swap with what everyone else has brought. That way you get some new clothes, shoes, books, toys, tools, and so does everyone else.

Then, as people leave, everyone makes a donation towards the BUILD project. You could also provide cakes and drinks (and ask for a donation) and give everyone a BUILD brochure and share the vision.

HOUSE SWAPPING

We all need a HOLIDAY each year, a different environment to unwind and spend precious time with family or friends. Now you can book a holiday AND make a contribution to the BUILD project.

Visit the Christian House Swap website that has been set up to help Christians quite literally swap homes and churches for a long weekend or a summer holiday. The set-up fee is minimal (and only paid when you arrange a swap) leaving you free to give your holiday fund to the BUILD project.
For details: www.ChristianHouseandChurchSwap.co.uk

Information on all of these ideas are in the January edition of Life@LHFC

COLLECTIONS

We are always collecting:
     •      POSTAGE STAMPS – please cut 5–10mm around the stamp.
     •      COMPUTER GAMES, CONSOLES & GAME BOY GAMES.
     •      CDs & DVDs
     •      MOBILE PHONES

All returned safe although stairs are now somewhat challenging! The sponsorship is getting close to £10 000 and will hopefully  go higher in the next few weeks.

BUILD PROJECT NEWS – SEPTEMBER 2015

Every month there are new ideas for raising money for the BUILD project so that everyone can get involved. The project is driven by the passion to connect our community to Jesus and to see lives transformed. We can all play our part.

Don’t forget to continue to give and stretch so that the vision becomes a reality.

Please continue to collect CDs & DVDs & MOBILE PHONES (these have raised £1000 so far), as well as PLASTIC MILK BOTTLE TOPS. There is a collection point in the foyer for all these items. Why not start collecting the milk bottle tops at work, or ask a local coffee shop to do that for you or at a place you visit regularly. You could provide them with a plastic bin to that. Also, the TEDDY BEARS PICNIC raised over £300 and despite the weather, saw many people come from the community. THANK YOU.

Here are the ideas for SEPTEMBER.

SMALL GROUP BUILD CHALLENGE

This challenge continues throughout the month so if you haven’t got involved yet you’ve still got time. One group is hosting a South African Braii on Sunday 13 September at 12.30, other groups have made jam, transformed a garden, shwapped and been to car boot sales. THANK YOU.

GIFT WEEK

This is an opportunity to fulfil the 2015/16 personal pledges that were made and to consider how much more we can give. Will you stretch and give another 10% on top of the pledge you made? Letters are available explaining how to make your gift.

GALA DINNER & CHARITY AUCTION
Saturday 7 November 2015
The Solent Hotel
£50 per person
DRESS CODE: Black Tie

A 3-course DINNER AND DANCING, with silent auction and live auction for things that money can and can’t buy. An incredible night! Raising money for the BUILD project.

Tickets are now on sale via the LHFC Office. Who could you tell and invite along?

This will be an amazing night to raise money for the BUILD project. But we need your help! We are currently working hard to get some amazing auction lots for our Gala Dinner and Charity Auction. Our aim is to get EVERYONE to stop, make yourself a coffee and for 5 minutes just think. How connected are you? Think about immediate family, your Uncle, second cousin? Godparent? Neighbours? Friends at work, local and far away? This is the time to ask those who could really help with an auction prize that could raise hundreds of pounds for our church building fund.

Do you know a celebrity? It doesn't matter how current, would they be willing to spare an hour for lunch as an auction prize? What about a behind the scenes experience somewhere they are currently working? "Money can't buy" at its very best!
Do you have any connections with a theme park, historic house, music venue, gallery or theatre ? Could they provide tickets and a VIP experience?
Do you know someone who has something out of the ordinary? So a speedboat, helicopter, racing car, a horse etc. Would they take someone out for the day or provide lessons as applicable?
Are you friends with or related to the manager of a great restaurant or hotel, beauty spa, sports venue and would they provide a prize?
Do you work for a company that could donate an electronic prize we could then auction? A TV? An iPad or iWatch or similar?

Ask them to donate an item and let Lisa Rowland know what it is – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

In June we had an amazing CAKE SALE which raised £730, thanks to all who baked, bought and ate. Several people also used this as an opportunity to share the cake with friends and get them involved in the project as well. The recent WEDDING FAIR has raised £250 so far and the CHILDREN’S SMARTIES tubes have also raised £150 with many more still to be returned.

Thanks to everyone involved. Here are the ideas for JULY.

SMALL GROUP BUILD CHALLENGE

The challenge is for each Small Group to come up with amazing, creative and imaginative ideas and raise as much as they can during July, August and September. A Quiz night, a duck race, car boot sale, cream tea, whatever you want to do. Plan it and do it. There is a prize for the winning group. It could be yours! One small group has given each member £10 and their task is to multiply it as many times as they can. What could you do?

SHWAPPING

Not quite swapping not quite shopping. Shwapping involves taking items such as clothes you don't need or want anymore and in return have a look for and take clothes or items you either want or need. Shwapping parties can be great fun and a fantastic way to refresh the wardrobe, bookshelf, toy box, garage, kitchen cupboard or walls. You get some new clothes, shoes, books, toys, tools, things for the home or artwork, de-clutter your house and make a donation for the shwap to the BUILD project, so everyone’s a winner!

There are many different items that can be shwapped – children’s toys, children’s books, computer games, tools – but it’s probably worth sticking with one type of item per event. Invite friends and neighbours, hold an event at work or even in the local park, the possibilities are endless.

GALA DINNER & CHARITY AUCTION
DATE: Saturday 7 November 2015
VENUE: The Solent Hotel

A 3-course meal, music entertainment and auction items that money can and can’t buy are the recipe for an amazing night to raise money for the BUILD project. But we need your help!

Do you know someone who could provide an auction item that could be sold on the night? A travel agent, dance teacher, hairdresser, musician, golf club professional, restaurant manager, gardener, hotel manager etc.. What about a ‘money can’t buy’ or a high-impact prize? A holiday somewhere wonderful? Behind the scenes VIP tour at a top venue? Tickets to a great event? Dinner with a celebrity? Think about who you know and be brave about asking for top quality prizes that will raise a lot of money!

Ask them to donate an item and let Lisa Rowland know what it is – This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it It’s going to be a fantastic evening and tickets will be on sale at the end of July. Who could you tell and invite along?

BUILD PROJECT NEWS – JUNE 2015

Thanks to everyone who donated CD’s and DVD’s, they have now all been sorted and sent away and thanks for the mobile phones and for getting involved in the Wedding Fair and Smartie tube filling. Please keep bringing them in so that we can continue to raise money.

This month we’ve got some new ideas for you to get involved with. Everything you do will make a difference and help BUILD community and BUILD lives. Don’t forget to continue to give and stretch so that the vision becomes a reality.

CAKE SALE - Sunday 14th June

If you can bake a cake or two, information and labels are available from Julie Fury and Lisa Hall on Sunday 31 May and Sunday 7 June. Then, bring what you have made on Sunday 14 June ready for it to be sold. Then you can buy a cake or two! Go into the Sports Hall after both services on Sunday 14 June and you will find a scrumptious array of cakes and bakes, a tasty way to help raise money for the BUILD project.

Why not buy a cake, take it home, invite your friends and neighbours to come round and then charge them for the cake and tell them about the BUILD project! Spread the news about what we do and what we plan to do to see our community transformed.

BUILD PROJECT NEWS – APRIL 2015

On Wednesday 25 February, Locks Heath Free Church members agreed to take up the challenge and keep going with the BUILD project and committed themselves to filling the funding gap over the next 12 months.

Much of this will be through increased personal giving, some already pledged, and this begins with a GIFT WEEK on 22-29 March. This is a week to fulfil the pledges made for 2014/15 and to stretch even further.

What about giving 10% more? For some of us that will be tough, sacrifices might need to be made, sell some stuff, cash in some shares. What about giving even more? Please stretch as far as you can

We will also be suggesting different ways to fill the gap – here are a few for this month.

MATCH FUNDING

Would you like to be able to donate more money to the BUILD Project each month without it costing you any more than a few minutes of your time? Did you know that there are ways of doing exactly that?

One of these opportunities is match funding. Many employers, as part of their corporate responsibility initiatives, offer to match funds raised by their employees in fundraising for charitable events. If you are planning to raise funds for the BUILD Project, would you consider applying to your employer to match anything you raise? If your employer does offer this and you weren’t thinking of utilising it, please think about things you could do: it doesn’t have to be climbing Everest - it could be something as simple as a bake sale.

Even if your employer doesn’t or won’t offer to match fundraising, or you are not employed, you can still take advantage. If you are planning to donate to the BUILD Project then please consider supporting the fundraising event of someone whose employer is matching instead. For every £50 donated this way then this could result in, with Gift Aid, a net donation of £112.50 (subject to employer matching limits).

So, get thinking and asking. If you raise £1000 which is then match funded this would be £2250. If ten people do this - that would be £22500 in one year alone (assuming sponsors pay enough tax to reclaim the Gift Aid). A significant amount. And then you can do it again next year!

Please speak to Tim Hancock, Pauline Griffiths or Cathy Madavan who will be able to point you to Church Members currently involved in charitable events for whom their employer is matching donations.
